There’s something about this city before dawn, whether it’s 20 below or pushing over a 100 that clears the mind. When the rest of Chicago is fast asleep, I’m walking, running, thinking, and reshaping my patterns on the fly, one step at a time. The quiet lets me strategize, reflect, and, yes, appreciate just how stunning this place can be.
But after yesterday’s massive media blitz of fearmongering and misinformation, it’s hard to ignore the systemic corruption that has a firm grip on this state. Top-down, it’s a cycle of financial and political gain, leaving most complicit. And with so many indictments and trials for corruption happening right here, you’d think someone would have learned by now. Guess not.
Maybe it just takes one domino to tip. Maybe it takes people like us standing here, files and receipts in hand, making sure the truth gets heard.
