dutchie

Let’s talk about Dutchie, the cannabis tech darling that’s revolutionizing dispensary operations with predictive compliance and integrated point-of-sale systems. And here’s a fun twist: Dutchie has indirect ties to DNS Capital, the investment office of Gigi Pritzker and her husband, Michael Pucker. How? Through their investment in Greenbits, a cannabis retail platform that Dutchie acquired in 2021.

DNS Capital participated in Greenbits’ $23 million Series B funding round in 2020, back when Greenbits was a major player in cannabis compliance and point-of-sale software. Then Dutchie came along, scooped up Greenbits as part of a massive acquisition spree, and boom, DNS Capital’s investment turned into shares of Dutchie, the now $3.75 billion behemoth.

Now stay with me here: Dutchie uses predictive technology to stay ahead of regulations, basically, their software updates before new laws even hit dispensary shelves. Genius, right? But imagine how much easier that innovation looks when you’re tied to the Pritzker family, the same dynasty that includes J.B. Pritzker, Governor of Illinois and self-proclaimed cannabis reform champion. Coincidence? Maybe.

Let’s call it what it is: a family power play. Gigi invests in the cannabis tech revolution while J.B. runs Illinois like a weed regulation testing ground. It’s like a game of Monopoly, but instead of hotels, they’re stacking cannabis licenses and tech platforms. And Dutchie? They’re the iron token, rolling through compliance updates and acquisitions like it’s their job, which, to be fair, it is.

But hey, this is just my observation. No accusations here, just connecting public dots. Dutchie’s tech is undeniably impressive, and if you can mix predictive compliance with predictive policy-making, well, that’s a whole new level of innovation. Some might call it brilliant strategy; others might call it a convenient coincidence. I’ll let you decide. Do you think they can predict who wins the license lotteries too?
