That TD Ameritrade money laundering story has had me thinking about some random trends, just curiosity, nothing serious. In industries like cannabis, you see fascinating strategies play out. Build state-of-the-art facilities in the middle of nowhere, run at a loss for years, sell them for pennies to a shiny new LLC, and suddenly the inefficiencies disappear. Investors shrug, and the books look clean again. Wouldn’t catch me off guard if it hasn’t happened more than once.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. A lot of the equipment in these cannabis or hemp extraction labs could absolutely be repurposed for other uses. Pressure vessels, closed-loop systems, solvent recovery units, and filtration setups overlap with what you’d need for certain… let’s call them creative operations. With some tweaks and the right materials, that same equipment could handle chemical extractions, refinement processes, or even the gasification steps required for narcotics production. But to really make it work, you’d also need capabilities typically found in food or drink facilities, high-temperature chambers, advanced filtration systems, and specialized processing tanks.

Of course, a setup like that would cost millions to build. And it’s not like anyone has ever gone to the trouble of constructing those kinds of facilities, running them at a loss, and then selling them for pennies in the middle of nowhere to a shiny new LLC. Right? Nope, never happened.

And here’s the kicker, after these facilities are sold, the export logs from these operations tend to get a little harder to track. Just a coincidence, I’m sure. In other industries, there have been cases where assets like these somehow end up tied to familiar names running efficiently again, whether through self-dealing or partnerships that raise an eyebrow or two. Nothing illegal, of course, just highly strategic. Makes you wonder about the opportunities, though. They’re endless, aren’t they?

Anyway, just random thoughts I’ve had. Nothing to worry about. I’m sure everything stays perfectly above board.

Just me, thinking out loud. But what if all those locations and facilities were tracked or watched for future moves just to see what becomes of them
