memories

The other night, a friend brought up one of my favorite movie quotes: “Well, I’m the guy who tells you there’s guys you can hit and guys you can’t. Now, that’s not quite a guy you can’t hit, but he’s almost a guy you can’t hit.” He said it fit a story from college perfectly that reminds him of what he’s witnessing unfold.

It was that time Vito and I found ourselves in a small-town dive bar near St. Patty’s Day, both dressed up for the clubs. Locals started in, throwing insults at us based on our outfits. Vito, ready to brawl, ripped off his shirt. But I stuck out my chin, blew a kiss, and said, “Don’t worry, daddy will teach you some manners.” The punch came, clothes got torn, but my silver tongue and knowledge of the law had us walking away scot-free.

My friend laughed, saying, “Lil’ Joey, you’ve grown up, but you still fight with your chin out.” And he’s right—whether it’s a bar brawl or taking on corporate cannabis, I’m not backing down. But this fight is different. It’s not just about throwing punches; it’s about challenging how the industry keeps profiting off marginalized communities while raking in billions off the backs of unvoiced victims.

Did you know that Florida’s legalization efforts have seen over $100 million in support from corporate giants like Trulieve ? Yet, real equity remains elusive—profit still leads the charge. Meanwhile, Illinois celebrates over $1 billion in sales this year, but the power dynamics stay skewed in favor of those already in control.

Today, I’m still relentless. The anchors I used to have are gone, and there’s no Vito to pull me off. So, I keep blowing kisses at anyone who tries to step in—or even aligns with corporate greed. The harder they push back or try to silence me, the more I escalate—because this fight isn’t over until equity is more than just a word on paper and all voices are heard. Based on my calls lately, if I’m not careful, I might just end up with a solid IMDb profile without ever wanting to be in showbiz.
