diversions

Remember when I mentioned “strategic diversions”? When that doesn’t work, it usually shifts to subtler tactics—like pretending we never met or acting like they’ve never heard of any lawsuit. But as the stakes rise, funny how the truth has a way of leaking out…

Picture this: you’re just grabbing a coffee with an old friend in the industry, and suddenly, they get a call about you. Being the loyal ally they are, they randomly hit speakerphone. And what do I hear? “Who cares if they fucked over Joe and a bunch of black people—that’s just how the cannabis business is! Business always happens that way, and always will, he won’t change it. So how do we get him to shut the fuck up?”

Ah, the beauty of timing. Sometimes, just being in the right place means you get to see the wrong things up close. Here’s to friends who keep the volume up—and to knowing when enough is enough.

Speaking of timing, and knowing when to keep quiet, some situations play out pretty wild.

January 2022, someone offhandedly suggested I’d be “better as a broker” and was “too expensive as a partner.” The guard went up—I wasn’t looking for a fight, but I started taking notes and prepping for what I knew might eventually come.

Flash forward to late one night, a “hypothetical” question gets tossed my way about what I’d do if things fell apart and I ended up with nothing. I took that as my cue to be ready, to add witnesses to calls, and to keep my guard up. Then, early in ‘23, I got a heads-up from someone with a conscience basically letting me know: You might want to be prepared—something’s coming.

Then came the meeting. Suddenly, they couldn’t meet contract terms and wanted to renegotiate—a position here, a salary there, maybe even shuffle around some shares. By spring ’23, I hear from another source that certain folks felt I didn’t “deserve anything.” They went quiet, and my legal team stepped in.

Eventually, their attorney circled back with a “solution”—acknowledging some breaches and offering a buyout because they knew I wouldn’t stay quiet. Spoiler alert: their numbers probably didn’t add up to their liking. They ghosted us, and… here we are.

fnaround.com—because staying quiet isn’t my thing, and I’m finding more allies who feel the same. Seems the public agrees; we’re getting offers to go morning show multiple days a week.
