The Sun-Times article highlighted officials supporting HB4293, a bill that eliminates CBD products while opening the door for THC-infused drinks to be sold in liquor stores. They claim it’s about protecting kids but let’s take a closer look.

If you examine Pritzker Private Capital (PPC) and the Pritzker family businesses, you’ll find countless channels to funnel money back to themselves. From cannabis auxiliary companies to liquor brands and even suppliers like sweeteners, beef jerky, artificial products, cleaning supplies, and 3PL services nearly anything can become a vehicle for returning profits to powerful players in exchange for favorable laws. It doesn’t have to be so cut and dry like cannabis ownership… just follow the money.

And let’s not forget: in 2023, Monogram Foods a company tied to Pritzker Private Capital
paid a fine for forcing children to work on hazardous equipment. Does this sound like a family or administration truly concerned about kids’ safety? https://lnkd.in/gcyADqBe

I mean if Jeffrey Skilling, the mastermind behind the Enron scandal, somehow turned his role in one of the largest corporate frauds in history into a claim of being an energy expert this bill makes sense… no one knows how to better protect kids than someone who knows how to hurt them right?

Now, consider the politicians backing this bill. What’s in it for them? Before this bill is even debated or approved, shouldn’t every single one of them sign a pledge to guarantee they and their families won’t have any financial ties to subsidiaries or profiting entities for at least a decade?

Maybe the politicians backing HB4293 aren’t financially motivated at all maybe they just have personal experience hurting kids, much like John D. Rockefeller, who crushed small businesses, exploited workers, and monopolized industries before using philanthropy to whitewash his image while still profiting from the same systems he helped build.

Remember what happened with Chicago’s parking meters? Once the deal was done, the public paid the price while those at the top reaped the rewards. HB4293 feels like history repeating itself a gift to large corporations, packaged as “child safety,” while small businesses like CBD producers are cut out of the market entirely.

What are we missing? Maybe this: The real beneficiaries of HB4293 aren’t kids they’re the politicians and corporations using legislation to consolidate power and profits. Until we demand transparency and accountability, we’ll continue to see the same patterns play out, at the expense of small businesses and the public.
